Our Story
In recent years the Forest Service and a small group of dedicated volunteers started restoration work on several historic lookouts on the Flathead National Forest. These preservation efforts inspired us to form the Northwest Montana Lookout Association in 2013.
Our Mission
The Northwest Montana Lookout
Association, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Federal and State agencies in the restoration and maintenance of fire lookouts and other support structures on public land.
Our Goals
Help facilitate the restoration and maintenance of fire lookouts and historic support structures.
Assist in recruiting and training volunteers.
Build partnerships with other organizations supporting public lands.
Support land stewardship by practicing”Leave No Trace” ethics.
Collect and share interpretive material on lookout history, support structures and surrounding areas.
Provide funding sources to help meet restoration, maintenance, recruiting and training goals.
Generate interest in and support for the FFLA and NMLA.
Our Service Area
NMLA partners with Kootenai National Forest, Flathead National Forest, Montana Department of Natrual Resources & Conservation, and Glacier National Park.
