Assessments

Glacier National Park

Mount Brown Condition Assessment

We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to join for 1-2 days of scraping, sanding, painting, and a general condition assessment. Be prepared to hike 5.5 miles from the Sperry Chalet Trailhead by the Lake McDonald Lodge. Dates TBD based on assessment crew.

Heavens Peak Condition Assessment

We are looking for 2-4 volunteers to join for 3 days of condition assessment and minor maintenance. Be prepared to hike 11 miles, mostly bushwhacking. Dates TBD based on assessment crew.

Mount Henry Lookout Condition Assessment

We are looking for 2-4 volunteers to join for a condition assessment and minor maintenance. You’ll be in the Three Rivers Ranger District about 65 miles northeast of Libby, Montana. Be prepared to hike about 2 miles. Dates TBD based on assessment crew.

Keeler Lookout Condition Assessment

We are looking for 2-4 volunteers to join for a condition assessment and minor maintenance. You’ll be in the Three Rivers Ranger District about 35-40 miles west of Libby, Montana. This is a drive-to lookout. Dates in late June and TBD by the Forest Service.

Robinson Lookout Condition Assessment

We are looking for 2-4 volunteers to join for a condition assessment and minor maintenance. You’ll be in the Ksanka Ranger District about 17 miles northwest of Eureka, Montana. Be prepared to hike about 5 miles. Dates TBD based on assessment crew.

Stahl Lookout Condition Assessment

We are looking for 2-4 volunteers to join for a condition assessment and minor maintenance. You’ll be in the Ksanka Ranger District about 65 miles northeast of Libby, Montana. Be prepared to hike about 4 miles. Dates TBD based on assessment crew.


Stillwater Montana State Forest- DNRC

Werner Peak Lookout Condition Assessment

We are looking for 2-4 volunteers to join for a condition assessment. You’ll be in the Stillwater area roughly 23 miles north of Whitefish, Montana. This is a drive-to lookout. Dates TBD based on assessment crew.

Glacier National Park

Porcupine Ridge Lookout Project

We are looking for 3-4 volunteers to join for a condition assessment, including taking photos for NRHP Nomination, and maintenance including installing new shutters and rodent-proofing the structure . You’ll be in Glacier National Park. Be prepared to hike about 10 miles from Goat Haunt. Dates TBD based on assessment crew.

For this project, you must have a passport to cross the border into Canada to the Goat Haunt area.


Kootenai National Forest

McGuire Lookout Project Description

We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to join for cupola windows and shutter work, and miscellaneous maintenance. You’ll be in the Rexford Ranger District about 14 miles southeast of Eureka, Montana. Be prepared to hike about 2.5 miles. July 6-15 have been set aside but actual dates TBD based on assessment crew.

North West Peak Lookout Project Description

We are looking for volunteers to join for installation of restored windows, installing a new ceiling and shutters, and painting. You’ll be in the Three Rivers Ranger District near Yaak, Montana. Be prepared to hike about 2.5 miles. Dates TBD based on assessment crew.

Mount Wam Lookout Project Description

We are looking for 3-4 volunteers to join for repairing shutters, painting, and installing new bracing. You’ll be in the Ten Lakes Area southeast of Eureka, Montana. Be prepared to hike about 5 miles with one water crossing. Dates TBD based on assessment crew.
